District Chaplain – Welcome Rev Suzie M Stark

Edinburgh North East Disctrict

October 20, 2022

I’m delighted to announce that we now have a District Chaplain.

She will do her best to attend District Events to say hello.  She is a lovely, approachable individual and I’m very pleased to be welcoming her to the District.

Suzie was brought up in Greenock and moved to Edinburgh 40 years ago. She has worked in the print industry, and the windsurfing industry and trained for the Ministry of the Church of Scotland after a few years working in the Church’s administrative offices. Ordained to the post of Associate Minister at the Parish Church of St Cuthbert, Suzie also volunteered as a member of the chaplaincy team at St Columba’s Hospice for six years. In 2016 Suzie was appointed the Chaplain at the Hospice, working closely with a team of three volunteers. Healthcare Chaplaincy is a generic chaplaincy, which means being available to support people of all faiths and none. It would be envisaged that a chaplaincy role within The Scouts would be similar, supporting leaders, volunteers and young people, meeting them wherever they are and whoever they are, offering a listening ear and knowing when to refer on. Suzie’s eleven years at the Hospice have given her a wealth of experience, this, combined with working in the parish at St Cuthbert’s and now at Greenside Parish Church, mean that she is accustomed to relating to people of all ages and all walks of life. As she enters a new phase of her life, trying to be retired but still working part-time, she is excited about taking on a new sort of chaplaincy role, and of fulfilling a long-held dream to belong to one of our best-loved uniformed organisations.
